UDWDC Costuming RulesFrom the Official Rules: K. Costuming: 1. Contestants in all Divisions except Starter, Social Starter, Country Club Challenge, Team Cabaret and Showtime must wear: a. Costumes that are ‘Country Western’ and are appropriate to the dance, the arena, and the person wearing them. b. Cowboy boots, except: (1) Line Dance, Troupe and Team dancers who may wear lace-up Ropers. (2) Newcomers, for whom boots are encouraged, but not required. (3) Funky and Novelty contestants who may wear lowheeled dance shoes or dance sneakers. c. A visible yoke on the front and the back of their costumes except Newcomers, who are just required to look County, and Funky and Novelty contestants, who need not have a yoke. d. Cowboy hats for men, including Country Club Challenge, but not Newcomer, Line Funky and Line Novelty contestants. Newcomers are encouraged, but not required, to wear hats. e. Hose (tights) and dance pants (knickers) for women, if either are revealed. f. Masters and Open 8 Dancers are permitted tear-away skirts which, if not used in solo format, cannot remain on the floor when discarded. g. One logo on a costume is allowed if it is 25 square inches outside dimension or less and worn as a crest, i.e. that area above the left breast, on the right watch pocket, i.e., that area above the right hip, or the sleeve. Logos should be tasteful and not detract from the costume. 2. Contestants in all Newcomer Divisions are not required to wear elaborate costumes and cannot have any sequins, rhinestones or other shiny or sparkly embellishments or materials, or metallic threads woven into the costume. 3. Starter and Social Starter Divisions: No costume requirements. We request that no ‘costumes’ be worn, just get up, dance and have fun! 4. Country Club Challenge: No costume requirements, except a Country look and a hat for the guys. 5. Team Cabaret and ShowTime: No costume requirements, just clothing that fits your performance! 6. Please remember that costuming is part of your final placement on every judge’s ballot, in every heat. 7. Props are anything that is not normally worn as clothing and are only allowed in Team Cabaret and ShowTime.
