Oklahoma Dance Rush is Oklahoma's only fully sanctioned  UCWDC® World Championship qualifying event. Location: the Biltmore Hotel, 102 S. Meridian Ave., Oklahoma City, 73108.

If you want a great place for social dancing with other dancers, you will want to attend this event!

There will be workshops 2-7 pm in  various dances, a Swing Competition and both swing and country dancing Friday  night, competition Saturday (a spectator pass is $10), as well as a host of  workshops, a Professional Show and open dancing Saturday night; more  competition, workshops, and open dancing Sunday.

Top Teacher and Top Student Prizes New This Year !

For ProAm Top Teachers, $5500 cash will be awarded  as well as incentives. (Minimum of 2 students dancing for overall to qualify).  Call or email for details.

For students, we’ll have special prizes for the top students competing for overall at each level. 

 

 We have place for truly new dancers (not just new competitors) this year.  It’s called Pre-Newcomer ProAm.  There are no overalls and it’s not a Worlds Division.  It’s a place for a truly new dancer to start.  So find an instructor and jump right in.  We look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!

 
Friday Night Swing Competition Saturday Night 8:00 PMShow
Swing Competitor registration closes at 5:00 PM on Friday.  There will be a lot of time for social dancing throughout the evening and into the night.  Dance ’til you drop to great swing music not just Friday night —  join us all weekend! Free with your weekend pass!  Don’t miss this one - as usual, a fabulous show of great dancing!  Relax, visit with friends, social dance and enjoy.  A must see!
Social Starter Division Teams and Groups

For couples who love to dance, but don’t want to worry about the rules, the Starter Divisions are for you.  There are no rules and you don’t need costumes.  Dance just for fun!  Hope to see you on the dance floor!

 

Competing teams as well as groups get a discount when registering together.  Call for details!  All  UCWDC®  troupe and team divisions will be offered .

 
Workshops Registration Deadline

Of course there will be lots of workshops!!   Country couples, swing, and line dance.  From beginner level to advanced, some free with your weekend pass, some paid—all free with a Gold Pass! Fantastic instructors:  something for everyone.

 

Registration for UCWDC®  divisions will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.  That is, if you forgot and didn’t register early to get the discount!  Your early registration will allow us to publish an accurate schedule so we can run an “On-Time” event.  Thanks for your cooperation!  Also, all competitors must have a weekend pass (or Gold pass). Swing, Hustle and Jack and Jill registration will close on-site.

 

General Information

What kinds of music will I hear and what dances will I see at the Oklahoma Dance Rush?

You will see many dances and hear a variety of music at the Oklahoma Dance Rush.

There are three main kinds of dances you will see this April.  These are Country Couples, Swing, and Line Dancing.  If you’re looking for examples of these dances, go to the videos page and you can watch videos of the dances you’ll see.

There will be three ballrooms with music available to dance in all three styles.

In Couples, there are eight dances that we compete, and these are the main dances we do socially.  These are Two Step, Waltz, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, NightClub, Cha Cha, Polka and Triple Two. You will hear Country music as well as a variety of music appropriate for those dances. 

Swing dancing is mostly West Coast Swing here at the Oklahoma Dance Rush and nationally on the Country Western circuit.  That tends to be some of today’s popular music as well as blues, fusion and disco.   Swing music is difficult to define as it crosses genres.  For more info on what music we dance west coast swing to…

Line Dancing is done to an amazing variety of music.  You will hear Country, pop, funk and a lot more.  Any good song can have a line dance choreographed to it and many do!  So you’ll hear great music matched with current and classic line dances.
